"In a medical emergency, medical imaging plays a critical role in diagnosis and treatment, time is critical in acute stroke care, every minute counts," added Mitchel.

"Time is critical for diagnosing stroke and starting treatment. There are definitely benefits for doctors to have the ability to analyse and diagnose these images from virtually anywhere. We were pleasantly surprised at our ability to detect subtle findings on the CT scan, which are often very critical in patient management, using this software," said fellow HBI member, Dr. Mayank Goyal who is also the director of research in the department of radiology and one of the neuro-radiologists in the study who analyzed the data.

"Another strength of this platform was its ability to handle massive imaging datasets of over 700 images seamlessly over the iPhone" added Goyal, who is also a member of HBI's Stroke and Vascular Dementia Programme.

The study was done using Calgary Scientific Inc.'s ResolutionMD Mobile, an application for iPhone and Android smart-phones.

Resolution MD is different from other medical image applications as a server does all the computing work and streams images to display on a smart-phone in real time. Doctors can see and manipulate medical images in seconds unlike other apps that can take 10-20 minutes to download raw medical images to an iPhone before they can be displayed. It is also unique as all medical images are secure. The confidential patient images remain behind hospital firewalls to prevent any patient data from being lost or stolen. The technology can also be used over great distances. By placing a server in a remote community, distant medical experts, such as stroke neurologists and radiologists, can have immediate secure access to patient scans anywhere, using a device they carry in their pocket.

The images can be viewed on an iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone or web-browser.

The research has been published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

T Mobile Opens Up Samsung Galaxy Android Pill Mystifier Varlet

T Mobile has opened up its Mystifier page for its forthcoming launching of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tab. The page as well has a sign up shape for more information.

The currently confirmed version of the Tab features a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor, triband HSPA support, quad-band GSM, 7-inch capacitive 1024×600 resolution display with multitouch support, Android 2.2, Wi-Fi radio, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS support, DLNA media streaming, Flash 10.1, 3.0 megapixel main camera with flash, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, HD video playback at 1080p and microSD card slot with support for 32 GB cards.

This version will also launch on November 1st, while launch and pricing for the T-Mobile version has yet to be confirmed.

Google & Sprint Announce Nexus S 4G, Google Voice Integration

Google has plunged a 4G version of its Nexus S smartphone on Sprints meshwork, the company denoted Mon in a web log post.

The Nexus S features a 4-inch touchscreen display, 1 GHz Hummingbird CPU, 16 GB of storage memory, two cameras and near-field communication capabilities. Of course, its most interesting feature is its WiMAX chip, which enables fast data transfer on the move (theoretically, up to 40 Mbit/s).

The device will be available this spring online and in Sprint retail stores, as well as Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the U.S. for $199.99.

Google also announced it has partnered with Sprint to enable seamless integration of Google Voice with users’ mobile phones. That means customers will be able to use their existing Sprint number as their Google Voice number, as well as replace their Sprint number with their Google Voice number when calling or texting from their Sprint phone.

Furthermore, international calls made from Google Voice-enabled Sprint phones will be connected at Google Voice’s low rates. Google Voice will also replace Sprint voicemail, which means users will be able to get transcribed voicemail messages online, via email and text message.

Nexus S 4G Now Available From Sprint

The 4G version of Google’s Nexus S smartphone is now available from Sprint for $199.99 with a two-year contract.

Manufactured by Samsung and branded by Google, the Nexus S 4G runs on Android 2.3, a.k.a. Gingerbread, and features a 4-inch power-saving super AMOLED touchscreen display, 1 GHz Hummingbird CPU, 16 GB of storage memory, two cameras and near-field communication capabilities.

The device is essentially the same as the T-Mobile version, but under Sprint‘s wing it also has a WiMAX chip, which enables fast mobile data transfer (theoretically, up to 40 megabits per second).

The phone is also available at Best Buy with an additional $50 discount for new customers.
